HVACR PROGRAM
The Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration (HVACR) training program is designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge to begin a career in the HVACR field. The HVACR training program is 49 credit hours and 720 clock hours including classroom instruction, labs, and an externship. Click here to view the HVACR program curriculum. The HVACR program trains students in a variety of areas including:
- Fundamentals of Refrigeration
- Basic Electricity
- Refrigeration Servicing and Techniques
- Motor Fundamentals
- Gas Heating
- Electric Heating
- Heat Pumps
- Air Quality/Sizing the Unit
- Electrical Troubleshooting
- Mechanical Troubleshooting
- Light Commercial Applications
- Identify and troubleshoot condenser, air handler, heat pump, and furnace
- Braze and solder using map gas and oxyacetylene torch
- Use electronic leak and carbon monoxide detector
- Understand SEER ratings
Graduates of the HVACR program have worked in a variety of commercial and residential areas including:
- Sales
- Contractors
- Servicing
- Installation
- Repair and maintenance
Upon successful completion of the HVACR program, students are qualified to take an onsite EPA certification test to obtain the following:
- Type I - Persons who maintain, service or repair small appliances must be certified as Type I Technicians
- Type II - Persons who maintain, service, repair or dispose of high or very high pressure appliances, except for small appliances or motor vehicle air conditioning systems, must be certified as Type II technicians.
- Type III - Persons who service, maintain, repair, or dispose of low pressure appliance must be certified as Type III technicians.
- Universal - Persons who maintain, service, repair, or dispose of small appliances as well as high and low pressure equipment, must be certified as Universal technicians.
