IS THE MEDICAL OFFICE ADMINISTRATION PROGRAM RIGHT FOR ME?

This program is recommended for those individuals that prefer working on tasks and do not want direct hands-on patient care. This is a good field for you if you like administrative work, are professional, are reliable, and can follow instructions easily. Recommended high school courses include mathematics, health, biology, keyboarding, bookkeeping, computers, and office skills. Previous experience in areas such as word processing, writing, communication, desktop publishing, project management, spreadsheets, and database management is also helpful.

Medical Office Administrators perform a variety of administrative duties necessary to run a medical organization efficiently. They conduct essential communication for the medical office; coordinate and schedule patient appointments; organize and maintain paper and electronic files; manage projects; conduct research; and disseminate information by using the telephone, mail services, Web sites, and e-mail. Medical office administrators use a variety of office equipment, including fax machines, photocopiers, scanners, and telephone systems. Computers are used to create spreadsheets, compose correspondence, manage databases, create presentations, reports, and documents using word processing and spreadsheet software.
